A Review of Skiing and Snowboarding Injuries

Cheaper travel and increasing disposable incomes have resulted in winter sports becoming progressively more popular. Injuries sustained during both skiing and snowboarding are frequently seen in British hospitals. A review at Chase Farm Hospital between December 1992 and April 1993 revealed that 55 patients were seen in the outpatient’s setting with skiing and snowboarding injuries. They were seen as outpatients on 172 occasions and required a total of 61 in- patient days. Consequently all healthcare professionals need at least a basic understanding of the injuries sustained whilst skiing and snowboarding.
